Working to protect and promote the Nisqually Watershed for current and future generations

Why I Plant Trees

My name is Maya, and I’m the Americorps member for the Nisqually River Education Project for the 2019/20 and 2020/21 service terms. The NREP cycles through many seasonal activities in a year, and this week’s fall colors and brisk air are signaling the start of tree planting season. Tree planting is one of the most rewarding activities I’ve done since serving with the Nisqually River Foundation. It is not the only way to help our watershed, but it is one that allows you to see the results of your work year after year on a large scale. The feeling of putting a tree in the ground and thinking of how long that tree will stand is truly amazing. Having an opportunity to get some fresh air and work outside is just an added benefit, especially in a year like this.
