Nisqually River Water Trail Open House For Immediate Release

The Nisqually River Council (NRC) and National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails and Conservation

Assistance Program (RTCA) are hosting an open house to share details and receive input on

the draft plan of the Nisqually River Water Trail on Monday, July 18th beginning at 6:00 pm. The

event will be held at the Eatonville Library (205 Center St W, Eatonville WA).

A short presentation will be given from 6:00 to 6:30 pm, but informational materials will be

available in an open house format until 7:30 pm.

Water trails offer nonmotorized recreationalists and paddlers the opportunity to travel a

designated route along a navigable river by providing access areas, environmental and

historical points of interests, and picnic stops. They educate on the environment, history, and

culture of the area and promote resource stewardship.

The proposed Nisqually River Water Trail stretches from Nisqually State Park to Luhr Beach on

Puget Sound. It offers a unique wilderness experience, despite its close proximity to Olympia

and Tacoma. Recommendations for the water trail include developing new river access points,

creating maps, guides, and interpretation materials, and highlighting ways that hikers,

photographers, bird watchers, or other recreationists can get be near the Nisqually River.

A draft plan is available on the Nisqually River Council’s website, www.nisquallyriver.org .
