Today is Juneteenth! But what is this day really about?
Juneteenth is an important part of American history and culture. Two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, news had finally arrived in Texas on June 19, 1865. This momentous day has recently been recognized as a national holiday and commemorates the freedom of enslaved people.
