Working to protect and promote the Nisqually Watershed for current and future generations

Welcome Tristan to the NRF Team!

Hello everyone! My name is Tristan Olson and I am so thrilled to be joining the Nisqually River Foundation as the Nisqually River Council Program Coordinator! Growing up in Olympia, WA I have always loved the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest and the rich sense of community that it brings when you explore it with others. Having recently spent time living in Southern California, I cannot express how happy I am to be returning to my home state of evergreen trees, salmon runs, and mountains that give way to flowing rivers and estuaries.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Creative Writing from Western Washington University while also studying Business Administration and Film. After graduating, I spent two years living in Malaysia and served as a Fulbright Program Coordinator working with the U.S. State department. While in Malaysia, I spent my weekends trekking through the jungles of Borneo learning about the different species of plants and animals that make up one of the oldest and most biodiverse rainforests in the world. While learning about the environment and traditions associated with the jungles, I also learned about the mass deforestation that was happening throughout the region. It reminded me that even the oldest forests in the world need protection if we wish for future generations to enjoy them as we have.

I cannot wait to put my renewed passion for the environment into my work with the Nisqually River Foundation. The opportunity to help coordinate the many different programs, meetings, and educational opportunities that make up this important conservation work is something I truly do not take for granted. Sharing the importance of our natural environment and the joys that can be found in nature with my hometown community is a privilege and I look forward to learning more, sharing knowledge, and protecting this environment alongside you all!
