Working to protect and promote the Nisqually Watershed for current and future generations

Salmon Watchers training opportunity for citizen scientists: December 7, 2015

The Nisqually Stream Stewards and Nisqually Indian Tribe are hosting a free Salmon Watchers training on Monday December 7th from 6:00-8:00 pm. This will be the final training opportunity until winter 2016!

The Salmon Watchers program is a citizen science opportunity that informs the Nisqually Indian Tribe’s Salmon Recovery Program. Salmon Watchers are assigned a location within the watershed, and visit that site once per week for at least 15 minutes. The volunteers collect data on the species and number of salmon. Collecting data on the absence of salmon is equally important, too. The Salmon Watchers provide much needed eyes-on-the-ground for tribal biologists because it gives a broad-scale look at the distribution, timing and abundances of spawning salmon.

The training will be held at the Nisqually Indian Tribe’s Natural Resources Office (address below). To confirm your spot, please contact Morgan by emailing morgan@nisquallyriver.org or by calling 360-438-8715.
